In a man's world a 21 year old male is called a kid where as a 21 year old female is a woman. Ever wondered why more responsibility is expected of girls than boys even though they may be of the same age. Girls are expected to do household chores, excel in studies and participate in extra curricular activities where as their male siblings are exempted from one or even more of the above activities.A mother is expected to be a super mom where as dads even if they perform a simple chore there is so much ooohs and aahs about it.Daughter-in-laws are expected to be well behaved , but when it comes to the son-in-laws they have the advantage of throwing their weight around..the heavier the better. I know there might be a lot of exemptions and a lot might argue that is not the case everywhere. But in most of the houses in India that is exactly the scenario.
In a place where i worked, one female American coworker commented on my low voice saying in the country where i came from it may be expected that i speak in hushed voices but it is not so in the US. Woman speak loud and authoritative here she said. If so why has not there been a single woman president in this country and when did US get its independence? In 1776... i hope i got the year right.Even in India where women, in certain parts of the country are still being opressed, supreme power to rule a country has been handed over to a woman by the people even as early as 1960s.
The whole point of my argument is because of the rules that have been dictated by the men over the centuries that only certain jobs can be performed by women many of them shirk from their responsibilities..they dont want families, they dont want children and they want to pursue their dreams and avoid being tied down by the burden of looking after the kids. There may come one stage when men may find it hard to find a woman who wants to raise a family. And i wouldn't blame the women.
The general attitude towards girls should change drastically if such a social problem has to be averted.
